Back in April 2017, the nation watched with bated breath as the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service battled for over 24 hours to extinguish a blaze.
This blaze was at a leading Cancer Research facility. The facility, on the site of Christies Hospital Trust in Manchester, is where game-changing research is carried to help us understand cancer with a view to making earlier diagnosis.
The bravery of the Fire and Rescue Service meant that much equipment and research samples could be salvaged, however, the building damage was extensive.
The equipment within the building was worth millions of pounds. Specialists were needed to make sure that as much of the equipment, documentation and research laboratory equipment as possible was salvaged and recommissioned.
ISS Restoration was recommended to the Insurers Davis French Associates as a professional restoration company that specialises in fire damage restoration. ISS Restoration is one of a handful of professional restoration service providers that can manage major and complex loss projects.
ISS Restoration assembled the Major Loss team – 20 skilled technicians who spent three months on site, decontaminating and cleaning vast quantities of highly specialised equipment. We worked with medical equipment specialists and manufacturers to clean, restore, test and recommission all manner of items.
Jamie Hutton, Major and Complex Loss Manager responsible for overseeing the fire restoration programme said that whilst “it was distressing to see so much world-leading research work threatened by this incident, it was pleasing to be able to restore much of their equipment, enabling the continuation of this pioneering and much-needed work”.
